Welcome to our Moana family
We are a 100% locally owned surf school – founded in 2020. Moana is focused on bringing quality lessons, great vibes, and community to amazing people like you coming to visit our island home of Bali, Indonesia. We love sharing our home with you, and teaching you guys all there is to know about connecting with the ocean through the magic of surfing. We can’t wait to meet you and help you improve your surf skills, catch your first waves, or even take on a intimidating break you don’t think you can handle without some outside support.

Meet Tysen
Tysen, our founder, head coach and boss, is originally from Tegallang, Bali all though he grew up between Jimbaran (just down the hill from Uluwatu) and his home village of Taro. He fell in love with the ocean after his first paddle and never looked back. You can find him in the water long boarding without a leash, popping ollies and spinning around mid wave. For Ty surfing is all about having fun and being free, connecting with the water and sharing smiles. If you talk to Ty out in the lineup, he will tell you that the ocean is his dance floor. Surfing is his escape, his peace, and his way to express himself.

Very nice surf school with a very good vibe. The instructor knows how to adapt to your level, give you good advice, and is always smiling! The equipment is of good quality and the beach is stunning!

We had an incredible experience with Moana Surf School during our stay in Uluwatu! Us, our 4yo, and 10yo were all beginners and surfed with Moana multiple times. Tysen and his team are amazing and I couldn’t believe how safe, supported, and confident our kids were out on the water with Moana. The location is perfect - beautiful, not crowded, and such a relaxed vibe. Everything is well organised and welcoming. And definitely finish your surf with a fresh coconut at Ari Cafe.

We had a fantastic private surf lesson at Moana Surf School. My partner and I were both beginner surfers and found that this lesson was perfect for us. The sea was calm and we waited a while for some gentle waves to start coming in. The surf instructors were so friendly and funny and had great chat whist we were waiting for waves. They were enthusiastic and helpful with direction - they had us standing up on the boards and surfing in waves in no time! The photographer also captured some great photos of us too! Definitely recommend these guys - decent board selection, and Alif did a nice job with my intermediate lesson. Good tips for my form, excellent knowledge of the local breaks. Spent his time on me, not catching waves himself unless I was flailing in the white water between sets. ???? …
